Family Photos with Senior Pets | Yountville, California

Updated: Jul 24, 2022

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is never easy. Something I know about all too well. So, when I was asked last year to photograph a family in Northern California with two senior pups, one of which was nearing the Rainbow Bridge, I knew I just had to do it. And it was truly an honor.

Welcome back, it’s been awhile! This post is about a rather special photo session I did last Fall in the quaint town of Yountville, situated in the heart of Napa Valley.

Meet Bailey and Pearl,

two senior rescues and their pawrents, Elaine and Ray. As Bailey was nearing the 'Rainbow Bridge', Mom Elaine wanted to get one last family portrait. The goal was simple: a few portrait style photos in the environment they love most, their hometown.

Although Pearl, a Great Pyrenees-Labrador mix and Bailey a Terrier mix, enjoyed daily walks around town and visits to the park near their home, they took life at a decidedly slower pace. To keep things simple and easy for these two senior gals, we broke it down to capture a few photos in two shorter sessions.

First up, a mid-day portrait at the Veteran's Memorial Park amphitheater tucked neatly away in the center of Yountville.

When in Wine Country ...

The next day, we took a few photographs during a late afternoon walk among the vineyards of Yountville. How utterly beautiful and peaceful it was!

Sweet adorable Bailey at home ...

Not long after our session, Baily crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. How grateful I am that Elaine and Ray allowed me to capture these special photographs for them. R.I.P. sweet Bailey!

The takeaway

We love our fur babies so much and the fact is that no matter how long they live, they are never here with us long enough. With that said, how important it is to have photographs that provide us with cherished memories long after they've left us. A professional photo session is a wonderful way to add to those special memories.
